About the poster

This is one of the most famous products created in cooperation between Dieter Rams and Braun – Phone Radio TP1.

The portable TP1 device, designed by Dieter Rams in 1959, sums up Dieter Rams’ philosophy into structured, simple and useful items designed with the end user in mind.

The TP1 is slightly larger than the 7 inch vinyl records it plays. It is a modular structure consisting of a radio and a turntable. The radio can work independently, the turntable needs a radio loudspeaker to reproduce sound. This simplicity of operation really impresses.

Dieter Rams is a German industrial designer and retired academic closely associated with the consumer products company Braun, the furniture company Vitsœ, and the functionalist school of industrial design. His unobtrusive approach and belief in “Less, but better” design generated a timeless quality in his products and have influenced the design of many products, which also secured Rams worldwide recognition and appreciation.
